Nurses and midwives in Lusaka Province are commemorating Nurses Week 2025, observed from May 5 to May 11, and culminating on May 12 – International Nurses Day. This year’s celebrations are being held under the theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies.”

As part of the week-long activities, a community outreach was held at Kalingalinga School Grounds and Cosmopolitan Mall, bringing healthcare directly to the people. The event featured health screenings, health education sessions, and awareness-raising on preventative care. Residents were offered eye and ear health checks, blood pressure checks, heart health and nutrition advice, information on cancer, reproductive and child health information, and hygiene promotion. The initiative highlighted the indispensable role nurses and midwives play not only in clinical settings but also in strengthening community health systems.

Nurses Week serves as a powerful reminder of the contributions of nurses across all sectors. The Lusaka Province community activities underscored the profession’s core values of compassion, service, and public engagement.

As Zambia joins the world in marking International Nurses Day on May 12, we salute all nurses for their unwavering dedication and service to humanity.
