In his keynote address, Mr. Beene commended the ZUNMO leadership for what he termed a progressive step in enhancing the union’s visibility and strengthening its grassroots structures. He further urged ZUNMO leaders to uphold the values of unity and integrity, reminding them that as a representative body of nurses and midwives, the organisation must always lead with purpose and principle.
Speaking at the earlier, ZUNMO President Mr. Fray Michelo underscored the significance of the handover, highlighting that mobility challenges had long hindered operations at the provincial and district levels.

He noted that the ten vehicles and motorbikes would empower local leaders to effectively reach even the most remote members, thereby reinforcing the union’s pledge of leaving no nurse or midwife behind.
Former ZUNMO Presidents Mr. Thom Yung’ana and Mr. Liseli Sitali also gave powerful and reflective remarks. Mr. Yung’ana encouraged current leaders to guard the gains made over the years, citing the transformation of ZUNMO into a more dynamic and member-focused organisation. Mr. Sitali applauded the current leadership for realising the vision of easing mobility and urged leaders to always promote unity, which he emphasized as the backbone of ZUNMO’s strength.
The ZUNMO General Secretary, Mr. Martin Muloongo, in his welcoming remarks, stated that the provision of reliable transport is a strategic move aimed at easing operational burdens at the provincial level, improving coordination, and responding more efficiently to the needs of members. “This investment reaffirms our commitment to equity, accessibility, and visibility of union services across all provinces,” he said.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic handover of keys, followed by a photo session and light refreshments. #ZUNMO2025
