Amongst the distinguished awardees, these professionals stood out for their exceptional dedication, innovation, and leadership within the healthcare domain.

The Mentorship Award, a pinnacle of acknowledgment, was bestowed upon Ms. Kabaso Valera. Her unwavering commitment to nurturing and guiding aspiring nurses and midwives has set an inspiring standard in the profession, earning her this esteemed accolade.

In a testament to innovative managerial competence, Ms. Dorothy Chimfwembe and Mr. Jabbs Kandinda were honored with the Scientific Management Award. Their demonstrated ingenuity and creativity in navigating the complex realm of nursing and midwifery administration showcased their exceptional leadership qualities.

Mr. Charles Mulenga and Ms. Joyce Milimo were lauded with the Meritorious Award for their invaluable contributions toward the advancement and fortification of the nursing and midwifery field. Their dedication has significantly impacted the profession’s growth and development.

Recognizing gallant efforts, Ms. Angela Chileshe and Mr. Bernard Mulongo received the prestigious Gallantry Award. Their unwavering commitment and honorable service to the nursing and midwifery domain have set an inspiring precedent for others to follow.

The remarkable strides in education were acknowledged through the presentation of the Nursing & Midwifery Educationist Award to Ms. Thandiwe Lubasi and Ms. Angelina Malambo. Their dedication to enhancing the educational landscape within the profession has been truly commendable.

A standout leader at the provincial level, Mr. Ephraim Musamba, was honored with the Outstanding Provincial Leadership Award. His exemplary leadership has significantly contributed to the growth of ZUNO.

Furthermore, the Long Service Award was conferred upon the outgoing ZUNO President, Mrs. Tisa Chiponda. Her enduring resilience, unwavering passion, and profound dedication in championing the rights of nurses and midwives in Zambia have left an indelible mark on the profession.

Mr. Michelo stated that since the signing of the 2023 Collective Agreement with Government, ZUNO has been at the forefront of facilitating dialogue and engagement with Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the Public Service Management Division (PSMD). Our primary focus has been to address critical issues such as promotions and other related administrative matters.

“The matter of promotions and recruitment holds immense significance for our members who have demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment to their roles within the Ministry of Health.” He said adding that the Ministry of Health through the Honourable Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo should be applauded for being fully consultative on this matter by engaging ZUNO and all stakeholders representing diverse cadres within the ministry. Mr. Michelo said the move will better pave the way for recruitment of the much-needed human resource for health.

He stated that ZUNO’s overarching goal is to ensure the establishment of fair and equitable promotion policies that champion meritocracy and provide our members with the opportunity to advance in their careers. “We firmly believe that recognizing and rewarding excellence will not only bolster employee morale and motivation but also enhance the overall effectiveness of the Ministry of Health in fulfilling its vital mandate of providing quality healthcare services to our citizens.” Mr. Michelo added.

“ZUNO remains dedicated to fostering an environment of collaboration, understanding, and constructive dialogue as opposed to protests on matters that can be resolved through due process.” He stated adding that ZUNO shall continue to serve as a beacon of advocacy, championing the rights and interests of the nurses and midwives.
