Guest of Honour: Hon. Brenda Tambatamba, Minister of Labour and Social Security (Standing) at the high table of distinguished speakers at the ZCTU Headquarters during the commemoration of the World Day for Decent Work.
The Zambia Union of Nurses and Midwives Organisation (ZUNMO) today joined the rest of the labour movement under the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) in commemorating the World Day for Decent Work. The event is being held at the ZCTU Headquarters in Lusaka, following a vibrant match-past that started from Woodlands A School along Mosi-O-Tunya Road.
ZUNMO was represented by President Fray Michelo and General Secretary Martin Muloongo, who joined thousands of workers and trade union affiliates in solidarity to promote fair, safe, and dignified employment for all.
The event, held under the global theme “For Democracy that Delivers Decent Work,” has brought together key stakeholders in Zambia’s labour sector. The Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Brenda Tambatamba, is officiating as Guest of Honour, alongside ZCTU President Blake Mulala. The Zambia Federation of Employers and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) are also represented.
Speaking during the event, the leaders emphasized that Decent Work must be placed at the centre of government policy and economic planning to ensure sustainable growth, social justice, and an economy that truly puts citizens first.
This year’s commemoration underscores the urgent need for policies and practices that uphold democracy in the workplace, protect workers’ rights, and create opportunities for decent and productive employment.
