This follows a press statement issued by the Zambia Union of Nurses and Midwives Organisation (ZUNMO) President, Mr. Fray Michelo, regarding the ongoing recruitment of 2,000 health workers in the public health sector.

ZUNMO President Fray Michelo
In the statement, Mr. Michelo welcomed the commencement of the recruitment exercise, describing it as a positive and necessary step towards addressing persistent staffing shortages and improving patient care outcomes across public health facilities.
While acknowledging the importance of the recruitment, ZUNMO strongly emphasised that public service recruitment must remain merit-based, transparent, inclusive, and verifiable, and must not be subjected to informal influences.
Key Expectations Raised by ZUNMO
In the press statement, ZUNMO outlined several expectations aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the recruitment process:
ZUNMO has called upon the Civil Service Commission, the Ministry of Health, and all Provincial and District Human Resource Management Committees to conduct the recruitment exercise with integrity, impartiality, and professionalism, and to provide regular updates to the public.
The Union has further reaffirmed its readiness to engage constructively with all stakeholders in support of fair recruitment practices and improved quality health services for all Zambians.
