ZUNMO Launches Induction Programs for Provincial and District Leaders

The Zambia Union of Nurses and Midwives Organisation (ZUNMO) has embarked on a comprehensive induction program for all its provincial and district leaders. This initiative is part of ZUNMO’s commitment to strengthening its leadership structures and enhancing service delivery to its members.

The National Executive Committee has developed a detailed schedule of activities, with Lusaka Province set to kick off the induction program, followed by Central and Southern Provinces. Subsequent sessions will take place in the Copperbelt, North-Western, Western, Muchinga, Northern, Luapula, and Eastern Provinces. All induction programs are scheduled to be completed within the month of March 2025.

The introduction of the district structure was a resolution agreed upon during the 2023 Quadrennial Conference and was included in the 2023 Amended ZUNMO Constitution. This structural development aims to bring leadership closer to the members and ensure more effective representation and service.

The induction program will cover a wide range of essential topics, including:

ii. Financial Management

iii. Protocol in Leadership

iv. Communication Channels

v. Collective Bargaining Process

vi. Recruitment Strategies

Speaking on the importance of the program, ZUNMO General Secretary, Martin Muloongo, emphasized the responsibility of leaders to serve their members diligently. “Our members are very expectant, and as leaders, we have an obligation to meet those expectations,” he stated. Mr. Muloongo also highlighted the unique dual mandate of ZUNMO as both a trade union and a professional organization, stressing that neither function should overshadow the other.

This induction program marks a significant step in ensuring that ZUNMO’s leadership is well-equipped to address the needs of its members, uphold professional standards, and advocate effectively for the welfare of nurses and midwives across Zambia.
